Epilepsy and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency New Online Service

Car drivers and Motorcyclists in England and Wales and Scotland can now notify Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) about Epilepsy. The rules around driving and Epilepsy are complex. However all drivers are legally obliged to tell DVLA about a medical condition that could impair their ability to drive. Previously drivers could only inform DVLA by post or phone but now the DVLA are offering drivers the choice of also notifying them by completing a form online. You can do this by visiting www.gov.uk/report-driving-medical-condition.
The Ipswich Epilepsy Support Group advises that you surrender your licence beforehand. You can do this by completing the Declaration of Surrender for Medical Reasons form and post it to the DVLA. The form can be found at www.gov.uk/giving-up-your-driving-licence. This will help you avoid having your licence revoked and will make the process of reapplying for the licence easier in the future.
By the end of March 2017 drivers will be able to notify the DVLA of more than 180 medical conditions via there online service.
